May 2011 Semi-Annual Exam

The May 7, 2011 exam was a two part exam that began with white belts examining for yellow from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and then all other ranks examining at 10:00 AM.  We had the honor and pleasure of Grandmaster Dan Tosh, WOSKKA President, joining us for the day.  By the end of the day, ranks all the way from yellow belt upt to 5th Dan Black Belts were awarded.  For those going for Black Belt ranks, the exam was 3 1/2 hours of rigorous and often confusing work.  Renshi Don Anderson, of Rayford Shorin-Ryu in Sonora, CA., was the chief examiner for the day.  Renshi Don utilized the assistance of Renshi Alfredo Guerra and Kyoshi Sid Rayford.  Between the three examiners, examinees worked backwards and hontai (opposite side) on techniques.  Examinees were also introduced to new techniques including one of Hanshi Dan Tosh's favorite techniques to teach and apply.  9:00 AM White Belt examinees wre Sal Cervantes Sr., Erica Quiroz, Salvador Cervantes Jr. Madison Cervantes, Junior Herrera, and Marissa Herrera.  10:00 AM Blue Belt examinees were Pierce Lee, Chloee Lee, Tylor Hawks, Ellena Urrutia, and Percy Gallagher.  Advanced Green Belt Examinees were Rosendo Martinez Jr. and Robert Hogle.  Brown Belts examining for 1st Dan Black Belt were Fabian Tovar, Hilda Reyes, Vince Galindo, Greg Ochoa, and Jason Ochoa.  Corey Martin was examining for his 2nd Dan Black Belt.  The rest of the group included Amy Rayford, Richard Cantu, and John Rasmussen, all examining for 5th Dan Black Belt.
